Primary Care Doctor

Primary Care Provider (PCP) for HMO and POS Plans

Primary Care Provider (PCP) or Woman’s Principal Health Care Provider (WPHCP) A PCP is a personal doctor you choose to manage your care. A WPHCP is like a PCP but specifically for women’s health issues. You don’t need a PCP referral to see your WPHCP. When: Start here if your issue isn’t an emergency and if your doctor’s office is open.

Urgent Care

Also called convenient care or a walk-in clinic, this care is provided in a non-emergency situation, similar to when you’d see a PCP. When: Choose this if you don’t have a PCP, your PCP doesn’t have an open appointment or your PCP’s office is closed. Seek emergency care instead if your issue is an emergency.

Emergency Care

This is the healthcare you receive at an emergency department (ED), also called an emergency room. If you believe your health is at serious risk, seek emergency care immediately at an emergency department or by calling 911.
